Appliques are applique’d

8 Jan

The pearls have been painstakingly slowly hand stitched on and the ruching has been stitched into place.  The pearls are tightly positioned on a firm backing and had to be stitched though the backing and through the bodice and the under dress.  The thread constantly got caught around the pearls and sometimes got so tangled I forgot which piece I was sewing on!  The ones on the skirt had to go through the underskirts as well and I needed to keep one hand up under the skirts to guide the needle back out.  A couple of times I considered taking it all of and placing them in the pattern I wanted onto a backing, but I think the way they individually press down the pleats is the look I want.

Now to think of a stone pattern to compliment this.  I sort of see arcs radiating from the bottom of the shoulder pearls, getting wider and more spread out as they move toward the opposite hip.  Same with the bottom ones, perhaps spreading all the way to the hem of the dress?

PS – my hair dresser  (hi Anne-Marie!) says I need to smile in the photos.  I will try to do better:-)
