Utility sewing – the stuff you just have to do.

30 May

I’ve been eating lots of veggies and not so much bread and the measuring tape has brought some nice results!  But this brings its own set of problems, such as finding clothes that fit.  Of course it is a great excuse to go shopping and I have made a few nice purchases at Winners, but for me it always means hemming.  Lots and lots of hemming.  I never thought I had short legs but when you have to hem your pants even though they are “petite” you have to face facts.  So there is the washing of the jeans and the measuring and why-don’t-the-same-measurements-work-on-every-pair-of-pants frustrations.  Grrr…. But you just buckle down and get it done, right?  And try not to look longingly at your current pet project and definitely no fabric shopping.

But I don’t know if anyone anywhere can afford the time or $$ to go out and completely re-wardrobe themselves in a day.  In spite of the great bargains, I can’t possibly replace everything and besides, I have some favourites that just have to be taken in.   Of course they have flat felled seams and double stitching and all sorts of fun stuff like that.  My absolutely best ever dress pants are black and there is nothing like a near-sighted over 50 person trying to rip out black on black stitches in the evening for a picture in aggravation.

The good news is that although not everything is finished and at least one pair of capris I took in probably shouldn’t have been done at all (they look pretty ghastly! And I think they always did! Eek!) I have enough clothes to wear for work and play for the next little while.  And for a bonus, I found a really nice bathing suit during that trip to Winners for only $35.  When you have a hot tub you always have to be on the look out for a decent bathing suit.
