Thrifty gene – check, tidy gene – ah….no.

19 Jun

I like to be thrifty and I like to reuse fabric even if it means taking some extra steps.  My maiden name is Gillis, after all.  And I am a Virgo, so there you go.

Made a bit of an effort this afternoon to use pieces from a previous mock up to make the final, try-it-on version to take to Candy this weekend.  I had to cut one side of the back of the leotard from one scrap of pale blue lycra and one side from the rest of the bolt.  In between those sides, the part of me that thinks I should be tidy (the Virgo component much missing in me) decided it was time to dump the huge bag of fabric scraps.  You can see where this is going, right?  When I went to put the two pieces of the leotard back together, there was only one.  And the other one was obviously somewhere in a bag of scraps that I have been collecting for months.  And observant readers may recall that I have been using the pale blue lycra for multiple projects over the past year or so.  So there are a lot of pale blue lycra scraps in there.  I checked what I could see at the very top of the bag then gave it up and cut another one.  *sigh*

The good news is that it got done and there is a very nice mock up garment ready to try on.  So, of course, I tried it on! Note to self – always offer to make garments in a style I like and for someone close to my size.

No photo this time.  I am saving it for the “client fitting.”  Will post it as soon as I get it!
