Great stuff about Whistler Mountain

9 Aug

No photos today.  I am on holidays, after all:-)

1. Parked car.  We drive in, park it (squeezed into a tiny space because real estate is ridiculously priced) and leave it.  Walk tot he grocery store, walk to go out for dinner or breakfast sometimes, lots of walking.

2.  Mountains, rivers, glaciers, etc. Yadda yadda.  I hate to be blase, but born and raised in BC, so I do expect to see Nature in all her glory daily.  Still, pretty awesome here.

3.  Aussies.  Used to be an almost all-Aussie service industry here, then changed for a few years and now they are back in full force.  So friendly, so cheerful and with a super sense of humour.

4.  Sounds.  Clip clop on the cobblestones.  In Victoria it would be horse drawn carriages, Robson St. in Vancouver would be a dressed-to-the-nines urbanite in killer shoes.  In Whistler it is almost always bike cleats.

5.  Asian ladies with wild and wonderful sun hats.

6.  Our own kitchen.  Great to eat out, but nice to stay in, too.

7.  Great internet (finally).

8.  Elderly people in well worn tevas, hiking boots and running shoes.  Not here to look at the mountains, but to walk, hike or ride them.

9.  Splints, slings and casts.  Multi-coloured, many-limbed casts.  Ankles, feet, legs, wrists, arms.  Pretty sure they hurt at the time, but definitely worn as badges of honour around here.

10. Families.  Fun to sit in Cittas and have a beer and watch families go by.  I love seeing moms and adult daughters who probably think they look nothing alike, but who so clearly do.  Lots of nice interaction between dads and older kids, too.

11. Ceiling fans.  Yes, there are days when I wish we had real air conditioning, but the fans are pretty great on a typical day here.
