Losing perspective?

20 Aug

It is a great joy to be able to spend extended amounts of time on a project.  Anyone who has limited time in their usual life to work on a hobby or avocation is familiar with that.  Working in bits and pieces during weekday evenings and the odd weekend can make a project seem disjointed and uncomfortable.  They say it takes 15 minutes for the average office worker to regain their train of thought after a phone call or other interruption.  Try getting back to an intricate gown design after being at work for a few days!

The flip side to that is the problem of tunnel vision.  Having extended amounts of time to pour into a project can also have drawbacks.  I have just attached the crinolines of my gown to the underdress.  I used two different types of zig zag to get the organza to lie flat and the minute it was done I wanted to rip it all out.  I am sure it would look so much better if the underdress overlapped the organza.

Lucky for me, some small part of my brain suggested that I take a break, have a cup of tea and then make my decision.  Or maybe pack it in for the day and decide tomorrow.  the best way to regain perspective is to step back and take a long view.

Love the super-macro setting on the new camera!
