Inspirations from other dance bloggers.

Yes, it is still a long road to travel down … but, hang on, it is one that isn’t as long as I thought. There were moments that I realized that I wasn’t starting from scratch, where I want to be and where I am and where I think I am, these places aren’t in different universes. I have a map or and a really good GPS.  …. There are things I need to work on but that is a good thing, because that means that I will improve. When I watch the DVD, I’m not horrified. There are things that I really do do well and I’m going to get better with the things that I don’t do so well.

The Spinning Dancer just finished competing at Embassy Ball in Pro-Am.  Her whole post is wonderful, but near the end, she has these sage words.  It is easy to keep looking at our mistakes and challenges because we are always wanting to improve our dancing.  Why spend all that time, effort and $$ if we aren’t wanting to improve?  Why do competition if we don’t want to be judged and prodded to improve?  But if we ONLY look at the mistakes, we lose the part that we probably started out enjoying most about dancing – the sense of fun and maybe even joy at moving together with our partners to music.

Take a look at her blog to read the rest of her story.
