Quest for the Best

24 Sep

The Seattle Chapter of USA Dance puts on small competitions called Quest for the Best a couple of times a year.  They take place in the intimate and charming Washington Dance Club,  which is a renovated authentic Art Deco 1930’s dance studio.  Whether it has been a lovely, lingering warm summer like this year, or a soggy September, the fall edition of the Quest seems to be invariably hot.  The competition is only one evening, so the events are very compressed and although the organizers carefully make sure we rarely have to stay on the floor to do back-to-back events, we often dash out the exit and run around to join the line up in marshaling for the next event with only a brief pause to towel off, sip some water and shuffle into the right order to get back on the floor.  Why do we do this?  Because it is Quest and it is loads of fun!

Seattle is pretty close for us and we can jump on the Anacortes ferry right after I teach my Saturday morning Iyengar yoga class and be there in plenty of time to meet up with our friends and have a good warm up before the competition begins.  We start dancing at 7 pm, dance a full slate of events, wait until our die hard ten dance friends finish their Latin events and still have time to hit  the Palace Kitchen for a late night celebratory beer and supper.  What could be better?

And here are our results for this year:

First in Senior I and Senior II Silver, second and third  in Senior Gold.  Pretty nice results and a wonderful night of dancing with great friends.  Thanks Seattle!  We will be back soon for the Northwest Regionals.
