Here is a wonderful post by fellow ballroom blogger ballroom chick. It says a lot about how age-group, syllabus and pro-am dancers could approach competitions with a lot less stress and a great deal more fun! And I am always in favour of more fun.

Well, it all went down this weekend. I came. I saw. I danced. And I have to say that it was one of the most fun dancing experiences I’ve ever had. I’m pretty sure I can boil this down to one particular thing: my attitude going in. See, what often happens to me at these studio events and competitions is that I go in very intense. I want to do my best. I want to show the audience how much passion I have. I want to impress someone. I want my teachers to not be too disappointed in me. And so I start the whole day very serious — criticizing myself when I mess up — convincing myself I’m just super focused. Over-analyzing critique from my teacher. Comparing myself to other dancers.
